Beverly (Harvitt) Schmalz went to her heavenly home Thursday, June 9, 2022. She died peacefully in her sleep at home. Beverly was born March 26, 1932, in Elyria, Ohio to Thalia (Whitcomb) and Richard Harvitt. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Mahlich; and husband, Russell Schmalz. Beverly married the love of her life, Russell, in 1953. They lived out their happy lives on their farm. Bev and Russ raised two children, Peggy (nee Schmalz) New and Scott Schmalz. They were blessed with many grandchildren, Chris (Sara) New, Brandon (Melissa) New, Lauren (nee New) (Steve) Nalbach, Josh Schmalz, Brooke (nee Schmalz) (Steve) Zupic, Jeni Schmalz, Hannah Schmalz, and Caleb Schmalz. They also had great-grandchildren, Tiegan New, Declan New, and Alexa New. Bev was proud to have chosen the career of wife, mother, homemaker, and farmer. Beverly cherished her family and friends and belonged to several organizations. She found pleasure in all but received great fulfillment in her “Family of God” and treasured her membership at the Vermilion E& R Church. Beverly had a joyous life before and after death because of her faith in God. The family is very grateful to Stein Hospice fore their compassion and excellent care. In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions to the E& R Church in memory of Beverly. The family will receive friends and family Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, 752 Grand Street, Vermilion, OH 44089.
