Janet Lindsay Crausaz

July 27, 1936 - April 9, 2022

Janet (Jan) Lindsay Crausaz (née Judkins), 85, of Lorain, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends, April 9, 2022, at Mercy Health—New Life Hospice. She was born in Randolph, Vermont, on July 27, 1936, and had been a Lorain resident for the past 52 years. She graduated from Rutland High School where she played the saxophone, later discovering her musical talent and love for the bassoon. She studied bassoon under the renowned Gunnar Schonbeck and was invited to perform at the All State Music Festival and New England Music Festival. Following high school, she was granted a full talent scholarship to Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio. After becoming a teacher and a mother, she continued her education at Kent State University, where she attained her Master’s degree in counseling. Jan taught English at Central School in Amherst, Ohio; Clearview Junior High School and was a guidance counselor at Midview High School for 17 years. She was the choir director for 30 years at Old Stone Evangelical Church of Amherst, Ohio. She was a member of the Amherst Community Chorus and Knights of Columbus in Lorain, Ohio. She was an avid reader who loved golf (especially with her son-in-law), spending time with her grandchildren, gourmet restaurants, flying (she even took flying lessons and soloed at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport) and traveling in the US and internationally (she visited Mexico, Greece, Italy, and Brazil). She is survived by her son, Robert (Debbie) Crausaz; her daughter, Susan (Mark) Netzel; her grandchildren, Phil Sheffield, Hayley Sheffield, Karlie Netzel, and Jacob Netzel; nieces Nancy (Pete) Haltof and Lyn (John) Webster; nephew James Haltof. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Enrico “Giggs” Gigliotti; her parents, Dean and Roma Judkins (née Williams) and her sister Joan Dalton. Jan was full of life and love, adventurous, and was an amazing friend to all that knew her. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 16, 2022, from 12:00 pm until the time of her memorial service at 2:00 pm, at Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral Home, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, Ohio. Following the visitation, friends are invited to reminisce and share memories beginning at 2:30 PM at the Derby at Fox Creek, 5445 Beavercrest Dr., in Lorain. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Old Stone Evangelical Church of Amherst, Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and Mercy Health—New Life Hospice in Lorain.
