Patricia A. Hellinger

May 27, 1951 - November 16, 2018

Patricia A. Hellinger (nee. Pirc) 67, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2018 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, where she was treated with kindness and compassion until her last breath, surrounded by her loving family. Patti fought a courageous two and a half year battle against Ovarian Cancer and was an example of a true warrior. Born on May 27, 1951 she was a lifelong resident of Lorain and has been a lifetime member of St. Anthony’s Lorain.Patti attended St. Anthony’s School, Lorain, and both St. Mary’s High School and Lorain High School from which she graduated in 1969. She married Al Hellinger, on April 25, 1970 at St. Anthony’s. Together, they survived raising their three kids who turned out pretty decent. Patti often said that she was blessed to have the opportunity to be a stay at home mom. By doing this, she was able to devote her life to her children and her extended family. She could often be found working a book fair, baking for a bake sale, hosting a picnic, or sitting in the bleachers cheering on her kids’ teams. In June of 1996, she began working at BFGoodrich Credit Union, later becoming Lakeshore Community Credit Union, from which she later retired. She is responsible for many if not all of her family’s traditions. She was able to care for both of her parents until their passing.Patti loved God and her family above all. She was an amazing baker and quilter. Several of her quilts were entered in the County Fair, once winning a “Best of Show”. She was a member of Marian Guild, volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul Society, and a Girl Scout Leader and a trainer. She enjoyed taking trips with Al on Footprint Tours and riding co-pilot on their little day trip adventures for over 49 plus years. One of her true success can be found in their eight grandchildren. She knows all of their likes, dislikes, dreams, and what makes them tick. They loved the times they spent with her, be it at Bay Point for countless summers, one of her yearly “grandkid sleepovers”, or simply enjoying a cup of tea with her. She could often be found in the audience at their vocal performances, academic or sporting events. She made certain to instill in each of them the importance of God, family, education and community service. To know them, is to know her. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Alvin; her three children, April (Andy) Serfozo of Sheffield Twp., Jodi (Ken) Bailey, and Matthew (Leslie) , both of Lorain; her eight grandchildren, Alec, Rebecca, Hannah, Riley, Emma, Cole, Bryn, and Jack; her five siblings; and countless nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joan (nee Rush) and Tony Pirc. Patti would not want those who knew her to be upset by her passing, as hers was a blessed life, lived with purpose and intent. She would want you to accept and cherish one another, to love and support each other and to take the time to really know others. Above all, when the going gets tough, let go and let God.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 20, from 4-8 p.m., at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center,1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 10:00 am, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 East Erie Ave, Lorain. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.To send an online condolence, go to www.dovinreberjones.com.
