Richard J. “Dick” Yepko, age 85, a lifelong resident of Lorain passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 18, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 2, 1933 to Joseph and Mary (nee Moskal). Dick was a graduate of Clearview High School. Upon his graduation he enlisted with the United States Navy serving as a Gunners Mate on the USS Midway aircraft carrier during the Korean War. Dick served the city of Lorain as a police officer and as the City Safety Director. He also worked as a toll booth operator for the Ohio Turnpike, and was the owner and operator of Lincoln Park Ballroom and the Silver Dollar Night Club. He was a member of the Elks Club, and the Amvets. He enjoyed spending the winters in Fort Myers, Florida at the Poinsettia Park where he served as a past president and on the board of directors. Woodworking was a hobby he enjoyed but spending time with his family was what brought him the most joy. Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty (nee Ignatko) Yepko; his sons, Richard “Rick” Michael, of Lorain, and Kirk Yepko, of Jacksonville, Florida; and his granddaughter, Paige Yepko, of Washington D.C. The Yepko family will receive friends on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral &Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 22nd. at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Very Rev. Father Basil Stoyka will officiate.
