Periklis "Pete" Epitropoulos

February 16, 1935 - April 28, 2022

Periklis "Pete" Epitropoulos, age 87, passed away on April 28, 2022. He was born on February 16, 1935, in Agios Germanos, Makedonia, Greece. As a young boy, he was one of over 30,000 children from the area who were evacuated to Eastern European countries during the Greek Civil War. The Red Cross helped relocate the children of the war and he spent years in Poland and Czechoslovakia. Periklis served in the 625th Battalion (Tagma Frederikis) as a sharp shooter in the Greek Army. After serving in the army, he worked in Greece and Germany to earn money for his trip to the United States and came to Ohio to join family already there. Soon after, he married his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Marianna, in Toronto, Canada. They moved to the United States in 1967 and started their life in Lorain, Ohio. In 1979, Periklis proudly became an American citizen. Periklis worked at Ford Motor Company and retired after 32 years of employment. He was an active member of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church community. He served on the church's parish council and enjoyed volunteering during various church events and festivals. He was an incredibly social person and enjoyed meeting new people, having his home full of friends and family, going on road trips, and traveling back to Greece and other countries in Europe, gardening, being outdoors in nature and later in life especially enjoyed watching the countless birds that visit his home's back porch. He relished the simple things in life. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Marianna, and daughters, Dorothy Epitropoulos, of Lorain and Helen Epitropoulos, of Columbus, Ohio, and many beloved relatives, nieces and nephews. Periklis was preceded in death by his parents Sotirios and Neda (Georgiadis), siblings Zoe Sekulopoulos, Christo Epitropoulos and Alexandra Sekoulopoulos. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral Center, 1100 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, Ohio. Trisagion Service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd., Lorain, Ohio. Reverend Father Michael Gulgas will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp., OH. To send an online condolence, please go to www.dovinreberjones.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Periklis may be made to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church/Philoptohos Society, Lorain, OH.
