Theodore Squires, age 96, of Lorain, passed away at his home and went to meet his Master on Sunday, November 25, 2018. He was born on June 21, 1922 in Brownsville, PA and moved to Lorain in 1956. Upon his move to Lorain, he went to work for the Lake Terminal Railroad as a diesel shop foreman. After 35 years of employment there, he finally retired in 1981. Ted enlisted and proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. He was based on the destroyer, “Yukon.” He was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church where he took great pride working in their kitchen. He began working in the kitchen almost 40 years ago, and still enjoyed helping with everything until just recently. Ted always looked forward to golfing, which he was excellent at. He also loved to garden and would often be found tinkering around with anything he could in his garden. He put a lot of hard work and pride into his garden and was always so happy to share his vegetables with everyone. He will be missed by his son, Dan (Sherri) Squires, of Amherst, daughters; Linda (Bruce) Skibo, of Amherst, and Mary Jane (Mark) Miller, of Pickerington, OH. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Brooke (Mitchell) Schwartz and Stone Squires and Alexander and Zachary Miller. Ted was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Anne (nee Kalie), in 2010, his parents; Terenty and Mary Squires, and his siblings; Bill Squires, Stella Lindsay, Mary Laznovsky, and Margie Goess. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 3 – 7 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where a Parastas will be held at 5:00 pm. The Panachida will be held on Friday, at 9:30 am in the funeral center, with Divine Liturgy to follow at 10:00 am at St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th Street, Lorain. The Rev. Jan Cizmar, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, with military honors being provided by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ted’s memory may be made to St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 2711 W. 40th Street, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
