Agnes A. Young's Obituary
Agnes A. Young (nee Shaffron), age 83, of Lorain, passed away at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, after a brief illness on Saturday, February 4, 2023.
She was born on June 23, 1939 in Wood, Pennsylvania. In 1959, she and her husband, Donald, Sr., moved to Lorain so that he could begin his career at Ford Motor Company in Lorain. While growing up in Pennsylvania, she graduated from Robert J. Smith High School. Later in life, she was very proud to have graduated from the Northern Institute of Cosmetology. Agnes was a faithful and devoted member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Elyria.
Agnes was quite the amateur horticulturist. Spring was her favorite season, and she enjoyed visiting local garden centers, seeking to fill her palette from which she would paint with flowers, the vision she had created in her mind’s eye. Agnes surely put her cosmetology skills to good use. For decades, family and friends were treated to haircuts, stylings, colorings, permanent waves, love, laughter, and good times. She thoroughly enjoyed nights out playing bingo with her daughter Theresa and granddaughters, Jackalyn and Natalie. Agnes also enjoyed the occasional trip to a casino. She absolutely cherished her beloved grandkids and her two great grandsons.
She is survived by her sons, Donald, Jr. (Karen), of Lorain and Mark A., of Lorain; daughter, Theresa (Louis) Velasquez, of Lorain; grandchildren, Jackalyn (Benjamin) Prosak, Natalie Velasquez, and Anthony Velasquez; great grandsons, Nicholas & William Prosak; brothers, Frank Shaffron, Jr., of Harrisburg, PA and William (Beverly) Shaffron, of Everett, PA; sister, Josephine Fletcher, of Everett, PA; as well as her nieces and nephews.
Agnes was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Donald G. Young, Sr., and her parents, Frank, Sr. and Stella (nee Boida) Shaffron.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 12th, 2023 from 1 – 4 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Her Mass of Christian burial will be on Monday, at 10:00 am at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio 44035. Rev. Fr. Neil Walters, Pastor, will officiate.
