Alfred "Al" W. D'Andrea's Obituary
Alfred “Al” W. D’Andrea Jr., age 65 a lifelong resident of Lorain passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a lengthy illness.
He was born on May 21, 1950 to Alfred W. and Faye (nee Reed) D’Andrea and graduated from Lorain High School in 1968. He enjoyed playing football in high school and in 1967 he was awarded honorable mention in the Buckeye Conference for his achievement on the football field.
Alfred retired as an electrician from U.S. Steel in 2000 after 30 years of service.
He enjoyed going to casinos, visiting Amish Country, and traveling to historical sites. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed remodeling his home, working in the yard, playing cards and watching sporting events on television. He had a passion for rebuilding and restoring cars, especially his 1969 Chevy SS and going to car shows and car events. His greatest pleasure and joy was the time he spent with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet (nee Gifford); his son, Chad D’Andrea; brothers, Ronald (Karen) D’Andrea and Gary (Denise) D’Andrea; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Faye D’Andrea Sr.; his in-laws, Edward and Theresa Gifford; grandparents, Joseph and Philomenia D’Andrea and Isabel and Howard Reed.
The D’Andrea family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian of Burial at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
The family suggest contributions be made in memory of Alfred to the American Cancer Society.
