Alfred F. Filczer's Obituary
Alfred F. Filczer, age 89, of Lorain passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born in Lorain, Ohio on November 3, 1928 to Frank and Harriet (nee Arndt) Filczer.
He graduated from Lorain St. Mary’s High School in 1947. Alfred served his Country with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952.
Upon his discharge he attended Ohio University and then went on to work as a commercial clerk at Ford Motor Company for 30 years. He was a lifetime member of the IAV, Lorain where he volunteered his time and services.
Alfred and his wife, Darlene enjoyed living in Peachtree City, GA for many years before returning to their hometown of Lorain, OH. Spending weekend’s ballroom dancing with Darlene was one of his greatest pleasures. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and his hobbies included reading, writing, and anything to do with airplanes.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Darlene (nee Vick); daughters, Georgia Filczer, of North Royalton, Jacquelyn (Ted) Filczer-Srokowski, of Amherst, and Christine Filczer, of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Wendy (Dale) Rauch Wnek, of Lorain, Dawn (Michael) Turley, of Columbus, OH, Ashley (David) Srokowski Shafer, of Cleveland, and Teddy and Tyler Srokowski, of Amherst; and his great grandchildren, Kennedy and Korrina.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 309 W. 7th. Street, Lorain, Ohio. Rev, Father Daniel Divis, Pastor, will officiate. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in memory of Alfred to St. Mary’s Church, Lorain.
