Alfred Zocchi's Obituary
Alfred C. Zocchi, 87, a lifelong resident of Lorain, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph. He was born January 1, 1930, to John and Grace (nee Graziano) Zocchi and attended Lorain High School.
Alfred enlisted with the United States Navy on November 14, 1950 and was honorably discharged on September 6, 1952, after serving his Country during the Korean War. Alfred made his career as a Blacksmith for 18 years with Thew Shovel and then went on to work as a supervisor for the Water Pollution Control Center, earning his class 3 license while employed there.
He was a member of the Church of St. Peter, the Italian American Veterans and Disabled American Veterans. He loved gardening and was the winner of many competitions for is delicious tomatoes. He also enjoyed building bird houses, fishing and playing horseshoes. Alfred was very meticulous and a perfectionist. He will always be remembered as a sweet, gentle and humble man who truly loved his family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Christina (nee DeSantis); children, Laurie (Dennis) Dovala, Lisa (Dale Yacobozzi) Jordan, Louise (Daniel) Brezinski and Alfred L. (Marilyn Sparks) Zocchi; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Bardo, Mario and Dominic (Ruth) Zocchi and his sister, Carmela Kovach.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace; grandson, Chad Zocchi and his siblings, Mary Zocchi, Tony Zocchi and Josephine Stawicki.
The Zocchi family will receive friends Monday, August 14, 2017 from 9 to 10:30 A.M. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will follow the visitation at 10:30 A.M. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M., at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Reverend Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
