Allen Alloway's Obituary
Allen Alloway, age 74, passed away December 1, 2024, following a long illness. He was born August 15, 1950, to Ronald and Irene (Smith) Alloway in Lorain, Ohio, where he was a resident most of his life. He always cherished his large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who lived close by and celebrated life’s milestones together.
Allen attended Nativity BVM School and then graduated from Admiral King High School in 1968. He studied at Lorain Community College for a short time before enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he served as an MP in Thailand and Taiwan during the war in Vietnam. When he returned to Lorain, Allen worked at US Steel and then Ford Motor Company before retiring in 2012.
Al was known for his sharp wit and keen sense of humor. He loved being in the sun and around the water whether it was fishing in Lake Erie, walking the beaches of the Outer Banks, or taking care of his pool. Before his illness he was an avid reader of all sorts of books, but especially science fiction and mystery. He loved puzzles and crosswords, which he always did in pen. His greatest joy in life, however, was being a father and then becoming a grandfather and great-grandfather. Being with his family always brought him joy and a smile to his face.
Allen is survived by his wife Diane; children Adam, Kelly Scott, Katherine, and Rachel; brother Larry; sister Janet Ortiz; five grandchildren Marisa, Anthony, Amani, Asia, and Amaya; and 2 great-grandchildren Vera and Lou. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth, as well as most of his dear aunts and uncles.
Inurnment will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst, Ohio, some warm, sunny day in the spring.
If desired, donations in his memory may be made to: Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County, 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, Ohio, 44035. Allen always found great joy in the many pets he rescued from there.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, Amherst. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dovinreberjones.com
