Alvin Blanton's Obituary
Alvin Blanton, age 66, formerly of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in Lafayette, Indiana.
Born on September 10, 1948 in Lorain, Alvin graduated from Lorain High School in 1968.
Alvin joined the US Marine Corp and served his country during the Vietnam War from 1968-1970.
For 42 years, Alvin worked at Ford Motor Company at the Lorain and Avon Lake Plants. He retired in 2011.
While living in Lorain, he was a member of New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. He enjoyed bowling and was a former member of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20. He enjoyed volunteering and each year would coordinate and put flags out for Memorial Day on deceased veteran’s graves with his boy scout troop.
He is survived by his sons, Brandon Burkens, of Columbus, Richard, Eric and William Blanton, all of Cleveland; and his daughter, Hope Blanton, of Cleveland; and his grandchildren; his sisters, Linda Blanton-Davis, Lorain, Diane (Jesse) Jackson, of Elyria, Dorothy (Robert, deceased) Yasko, of Lorain and Sandra (Donald) Smith, of Pittsburgh, PA.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin, Sr. and Lula (nee Goines), his twin brother, Calvin Jr., and his brothers, Louis and Dennis.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 12, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. (PLEASE NOTE CHANGED TIMES) in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain, with military honors being conducted. Following the committal service, the Blanton Family invites friends to join them at a luncheon.
