Andrew J. Holp's Obituary
Andrew J. Holp, age 70, of Lorain, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at his residence under the care of New Life Hospice after a long illness.
Andrew was born on June 10, 1943 in Lorain, Ohio to Andrew A. and Eleanor Holp and graduated in 1962 from Amherst High School. He served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He was employed for 37 years as an installer and repairman for CenturyLink Telephone Co., retiring in 2009. Prior to his career at CenturyLink he worked as a dispatcher for the Amherst Police Department. He was also a 15 year volunteer for the Red Cross Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Andrew was a member of Wolf Dog Rescue, Storm Chasers and Sky Warn and was involved in the Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure.
Andrew was a member of Nativity BVM Catholic Church and a former charter member of the Blue Knights. He enjoyed being a Hamm Radio Operator since the age of 15.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Carolyn (Babics); daughter, Carol Allen (Lash), of Amherst; grandchildren, William Allen, John Allen, Crystal Allen, Nicholas Babics and Chance Babics; 1 great-grandson; brothers, Dennis Holp, of New Haven, Indiana and Donald Holp, of Tucson, Arizona; and sister, Jennifer Hitt, of Georgia.
Andrew was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew A. and Eleanor Holp and his sister, Virgina Holp.
The Holp family will receive friends on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013 from 2:00 -5:00 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 18th from 5:00- 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19th. at 10:00 a.m. in the Funeral Center. Deacon Robert Dybo, from Nativity BVM Catholic Church will officiate. The Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard will provide Military Honors. Private family inurment will take place at a later date.
