Andrew Miceli's Obituary
Andrew P. Miceli, age 94, a lifelong resident of Lorain, died on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at his home while under the care of New Life Hospice, following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 21, 1917 in Lorain to the late Joseph and Filomena (nee Posenti) Miceli. He graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1937A and Dykes Spencerian College in Cleveland.
He served his country in the US Army for 4 years as a Staff Sgt during World War II in the Pacific Theater with the 1st. 501 st. Anti Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion.
Andy worked for the Lorain City Water Department for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was also an agent for Equitable Insurance Company.
He was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, and a member of the Church of St. Peter and the Knights of Columbus of Lorain. He was also an active member of the Italian American Veterans Post 1 and the Disabled American Veterans.
He enjoyed playing golf and bowling. An avid “Fighting Irish” fan, Andy was best known for his passion for the University of Notre Dame football team.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Catherine (nee Cau); his sons, Andrew, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Dr. Mark (Nancy), of Charlotte, NC, Philip (Amy), of Atlanta, GA, and Thomas (Connie), of Avon Lake; his daughters, Mary (Ronald) Rae, of St. Charles, IL and Jean (Dennis) Yourkvitch, of Avon Lake; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Lillian Shildwachter, of Lorain, Angeline Ives, of Oberlin, Mary Artman, of Largo, FL, Dorothy Renner and Joan Miceli, both of Lorain.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and Philip.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 5th from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral center followed by a funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The IAV Post 1 will conduct military honors.
