Ann Akers' Obituary
Ann Akers (nee Savastuk), born on April 3, 1931 in Elyria, Ohio to Frank and Alexandra (nee Seroka) Savastuk passed away at her home on Friday, March 10, 2023 under the care of New Life Hospice.
Ann married Hershel Akers of Grethel, Kentucky on November 26, 1955 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, in Lorain where she was a lifetime member. Ann also regularly attended St. Peter Church in Lorain. Her faith in God never waivered.
Ann was a true and talented homemaker who had many hobbies and passions. Her love of cooking and desire to feed everyone was a wonderful quality that gave her joy, and she was particularly skilled in making nut rolls, pies, cabbage rolls, and pierogis. The fact that she made homemade sausage with her mother’s sausage maker is a testament to her dedication to keeping family traditions alive.
Ann’s talent as a seamstress was also impressive. It’s a true talent when someone can take apart clothing and restyle it to their liking, and it’s lovely that she made 20 quilts for her family in 2021. Ann was a window designer at Kline’s dress shop in Lorain and then was employed in the office at Bendix/Westinghouse, in Elyria. Her love of writing poetry and drawing shows that she had a creative side as well. Ann loved flowers and starting her own plants and trees from seedlings. She also loved going to the casino with her children and grandchildren.
She was a caring and nurturing lady who cherished every moment with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Ann is survived by her children, Alicia (Paul) Kleinfelter, of Findlay, Marisa Akers, of Lorain, and Mark Akers, of Elyria; grandchildren, Ryan Kleinfelter, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Alyson (Thomas) Coleman, of Boydton, VA, Sean Kleinfelter, of Houston, TX, Alexandra (Michael Hurst) Frederick, of Elyria, Michael (Nicole) Akers, of Sheffield Village, and Bekah (Reed) Palmieri, of Avon Lake; great-grandchildren, Clifton, Bryson, and John William Coleman, Levi Saunders, Landon and Leland Hurst, and Emilia Palmieri; and her beloved dog, Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Hershel Akers, in 2016; parents, Frank and Alexandra Savastuk; grandson, Jordan Akers; great-granddaughter, Delaney Saunders; and siblings, Theodore Bansek, Stanley Bansek, Edward Bansek, and Mary Bansek. Stephanie Bansek, Esther Forst, John Savastuk, and Alex Savastuk.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
