Arnell Ruth Rodgers' Obituary
Arnell Ruth Rodgers – went home to be with the Lord and savior Jesus Christ on October 15, 2022.
Arnell was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Completing her time here on earth, at the age of 94, surrounded by family, Arnell left her earthy body to be with the Lord.
Arnell was born in Montgomery Alabama on May 14, 1928, to Timothy and Lucile Alexander. She had many accomplishments in her life. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Alabama University. After graduation, she began her career as an educator in Pittsview, AL. She met John W. Rodgers, prior to the starting her career as an educator. They later marriage and Arnell moved to Lorain, Ohio, where she substituted taught until a full-time teaching position became available. Arnell earned her ten year in teaching and worked toward her master’s degree. John had two daughters from a previous marriage (Connie & Mary-Helen of Youngstown, OH). Arnell was focusing on her career and being a devoted wife. They later decided to start a family leading to the birth of their son.
Arnell continued to teach for a total of 31 years in Lorain City School System. She retired from Garfield Elementary School in Lorain and had a positive impacted on many of her former students. She remained in Lorain after her teaching career enjoying her golden years with family and friends. She was a long-time member of Greater Saint Mathews AME Church, Lorain, OH.
She was proceeded in death by her husband: John W. Rodgers, parents: Timothy Alexander (dad) & Lucile (Carter) Alexander (mom), Virginia (Dare) Alexander (sister). Blanche Johnson (Grandmother), Luke J Alexander (Uncle), Rebecca Alexander (Aunt), Rev. Joseph Alexander (Uncle), Samuel Alexander (Uncle), Mary Rodgers-Jones (step-daughter), Tommy Jones (grandson), along with other relatives and friends.
Survived by: Vernon and (Robin) Rodgers of Amherst, (son), Cameron (Brooke), Rodgers (Grandson), Skyler Rodgers (Great Granddaughter) Lorain, OH, Briana and (Zachary) Eschweiler (Granddaughter) Cleveland, OH. Bernard and (Bishop Jane Gresham) (Nephew) Columbus, OH. Ayanna Garrett and family, Columbus OH, Nicci Valdez and family Columbus, OH, Arlinda and Brianna Keaton of Avon, OH, Laurie Rodgers of Lorain, OH, Connie Rodgers Austintown, OH, Carolos Rodgers (Grandson) of TX, Michael Hurt (Grandson) of Fort Wayne, IN, Lanna Jones (Granddaughter) York, Pennsylvania and Stanley Jones Grandson) of Warren, OH and a host of extended family., Marian (Tish) Jones of Columbus, OH., Lillie Shepard (Cousin) of Las Vegas, NV. And other family members.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 22, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, Ohio. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral center. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
