Arthur J. James' Obituary
Arthur J. James, age 90, of Lorain, passed away Monday, January 18, 2016 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain, following a short illness.
Born December 14, 1925 in Elyria, he moved to Lorain as a young child. After graduating from Lorain High School in 1944, Arthur served in the US Army during World War II in Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and the Army Occupation Medal-Germany.
Arthur worked for General Motors in Elyria for 38 years, retiring in 1988 as a computer operator. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Lorain and the Lorain American Legion Post 30.
For many years, Arthur was in charge of the hot meals for the homeless at St. Joseph Church, Lorain. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, softball, traveling and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns.
Surviving is his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth (nee Fisher); sons, Jay (Jean) of El Cajon, CA, and Matthew of Los Angeles; daughters, Lynette (Kirk) Fitch and Karen (Thomas) Jacops both of Lorain; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; and a brother, William James of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marie (nee Probert) James; a brother, Daniel “Bud” James; and sisters, Betty Herrick, Susan Annable, Mary James and Phyllis James.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where funeral services will be Saturday at 10:30 am followed by mass at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, W. 8th Street and Reid Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Daniel Divis, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The American Legion Post 30 will conduct military honors.
