Beatrice Pogacnik's Obituary
Beatrice F. Pogacnik, age 87, passed away peacefully at Kingston of Vermilion on Saturday, February, 16, 2013. She was born on June 2, 1925 in Midland, Pennsylvania and lived in Lorain most of her life before moving to Vermilion. She graduated from Lorain High School in 1942 B.
She was employed at Lorain National Tube for several years. Later she worked at Lorain Products for 32 years, holding several positions as assembler, secretary, production planner and Supervisor of Production Planning.
She was a member of St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and St. Mary's Catholic Church of Vermilion.
Known for her love and joy of baking, she submitted her award winning recipe pineapple roll ups to Pillsbury. In 1956 she was one of the 100 winning finalist in the Pillsbury Mills Eight Grand National Bake off in New York at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. She continued to bake throughout her life even up until her passing.
Besides baking she enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, playing cards and bingo. She volunteered many hours for Lorain Community Hospital and Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Pogacnik in 1992; and her son, Edward (Pogo) Pogacnik in 1982; her parents, Nick and Catherine Breno( Biondillo); sister, Mary Ketcham; and brothers, Anthony Breno and Francis Breno.
She is survived by her children; Dennis (Rose) Pogacnik, of Magalia, California and Linda (Ken) Sexstella, of Vermilion; grandson, Aaron (Melissa)Sexstella; and great-grandchildren, Jake and Mia Sexstella of Concord; a sister, Fran Canalos, of Lorain; brothers, Nick Breno, of Florida and Tom Breno, of Lorain; many nieces and nephews.
The Pogacnik family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 21st. in the funeral center. Rev. Fr. Ron Brickner, Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Vermilion will officiate. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
