Bernard E. "Ben" Zientarski's Obituary
Bernard Eugene "Ben" Zientarski Jr., 69, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Independence Village in Avon Lake, Ohio. Born on March 16, 1955, in Lorain, Ohio, to Bernard E. and Teresa (nee Imbrogno) Zientarski Sr., Ben was a lifelong resident and dedicated member of his community.
A proud graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1973, Ben went on to build a successful career as the owner and operator of Lake Screen Printing, a business he started in the basement of his parents' home. For 47 years, he ran the company with integrity and a deep sense of responsibility, supplying printed jerseys, shirts, and game wear for the Cleveland Browns and many others. He was known for his kindness as a boss, often hiring those in need of work experience, individuals with special needs, and those seeking a second chance in life.
Ben had a deep passion for preserving and restoring World War II vehicles, which he proudly displayed across the country. His dedication to honoring veterans was reflected in his involvement in Memorial Day parades, D-Day reenactments, and other historical commemorations. Ben never hesitated when a veterans' organization asked him to be present for memorial services, embodying the spirit of service and respect for those who served. He also loved boating on Lake Erie. He had a great love for music and having jam sessions in the basement of their home.
Active in his community, Ben was a member of many organizations, including the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA), Ohio MOTORPOOL, Lorain Chamber of Commerce, Lorain Rotary Club, Elks Club, Beaver Creek Club, and the NRA. He served as president and on the board of the Lorain Palace Theater, where he played a key role in introducing 3D technology to the historic venue.
Ben was a social butterfly who loved people, and he shared a special and unique bond with his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 43 years, Annette (nee Rehoreg); his children, Jessica Zientarski, Bernard Eugene "Ben" Zientarski III (partner, Katie McCartney), and Lauren Zientarski (fiancé Eli Lockwood); siblings Michael (Elaine) Zientarski, Kathy (Dave) Coffman, and Molly (Mike) Mingo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Teresa Zientarski Sr.
Ben’s legacy of generosity, love for his family, and dedication to preserving history will continue to inspire those who knew him. His contributions to the community and his deep care for others will be remembered fondly by many.
A memorial service to celebrate Ben’s life will be held at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst on Thursday, October 3rd from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral center.
