Betty Elizabeth Gray's Obituary
Betty Elizabeth Gray passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home. She was born on June 27, 1933 in Kentucky, moving to South Amherst in 1951.
She was a beautician in the Lorain County area for over 50 years, owning many shops in South Amherst and Lorain. Betty was an avid bowler who bowled in many leagues and earned the Pioneer Award for her lifelong commitment to the sport.
Betty was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Stone City Chapter #325 of the Order of the Eastern Star. “Grandma Betty” loved following Cleveland sports teams and spending time with her grandchildren and family.
She is survived by her son James Michael (Arline) Gray; grandchildren, Brandon and Kaitlyn; brothers, Bill (Hazel) Sowders, and Leslie (Cookie) Sowders; sister, Marcella (Earl) Workman; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James, in 1992; and her parents, William and Ethel Sowders.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 17, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made in memory of Betty to the Ohio State USBC Youth Association Bowling Scholarship Fund.
