Carl Linwood Gutman's Obituary
Carl Linwood Gutman, age 55, passed away May 15, 2025 following a two-month battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. May 15th was also the date Carl’s grandfather, 1st. Lt. Carl F. Gutman, was killed in action in World War II.
Carl was born on October 15, 1969 and grew up in Amherst Township. He graduated from Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst, The Ohio State University, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. Carl lived in Hilliard and Huron, Ohio before moving to Vermilion, Ohio two years ago. He retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol in May, 2024 after 20 years of service.
Carl enjoyed attending Ohio State football games, watching the Guardians, and Cavaliers, golfing, gardening, cooking and getting together with his friends in Florida.
Survivors include his mother, Judith (nee Creel) Gutman, of Vermilion; sister, and brother-in-law, Paula and Mark Orchowski, of Lorain; brothers, Todd, of Phoenix, AZ; and Daren, of Amherst; nieces, Sydney and Ashley Orchowski, of Lorain; nephew, Jeremy Orchowski, of Lorain; nephew, Ashton (Gracelynn) Gutman, of Killeen, TX, and Dalton Gutman, of Amherst; aunt, Lynne Svec, of Maine; and many cousins.
Carl was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Mildred (nee Kreig) Gutman, and E. Linwood and Elaine (nee Kinsman) Creel; aunts, Patricia Creel, and Diane Creel; uncle, Robert Svec; and cousin, John Svec.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 31, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral center.
