Carl C. Nau's Obituary
Carl C. Nau, peacefully passed away while under care of Mercy New Life Hospice on Friday, August 4, 2023, at the remarkable age of 92. He was born on September 29, 1930, in Lorain, Ohio, to William, Jr. and Matilda (nee Emerick) Nau.
Carl's life was marked by exceptional dedication and service to his country and community. He bravely served in the United States Army during the Korean War, enlisting in 1951 and receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. His selfless commitment to defending the nation was a testament to his unwavering sense of duty.
Following his military service, Carl embarked on a successful entrepreneurial journey, building, owning, and skillfully managing Rite Nau Beverage Drive through. Prior to this endeavor, he lent his talents to US Steel, where he worked in fuel and power and even served as a relief foreman.
In addition to his professional achievements, Carl explored various fields, excelling in each one. He was an insurance sales professional and also diligently owned a local golf course. The latter profession was a fitting choice, as Carl's true passion was golfing, which he pursued with great enthusiasm.
Throughout his life, Carl was an active and devoted member of numerous organizations in his community. He was a cherished member of VFW Post 451, Amvets Post 47, and American Legion Post 30, where he formed lifelong friendships with fellow veterans. Furthermore, Carl was a proud and esteemed life member of Elks 1301, Moose Lodge 778, and a distinguished 32nd Degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge 786, signifying his dedication to Freemasonry and its principles. He was also a valued member of the Elyria Eagles, where he engaged in camaraderie and charitable endeavors.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 72 years, La June F. (nee Schneider) Nau, children; Patricia Logar, of Amherst, Dale Nau, of Lorain, Carl (Debbie) Nau, of Lorain and Diane (Carl) Baker, of Punta Gorda, FL, grandchildren; Chris & Carl Baker, Crystal Slack and George Logar, great grandchildren; Sydnie, Cody, Chase, CJ & Callie Baker, Alexis Cheers, and Josh & Sofie Logar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings; William, Bob, Ed, Dale, Ron, Dorothy Enz and Beverly Stempowski, grandson, Dustin Slack and son-in-law, Chuck Logar.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 9th from 11:00 am until the time of his funeral service at 1:00 pm at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Pastor Chris Buckingham-Taylor of St. Peter United Church of Christ, will officiate services. Burial will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
