Carmelene "Carm" A. Januzzi's Obituary
Carmelene "Carm" A. (nee Dimacchia) Januzzi, 96, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Avon Oaks Caring Community.
Born on December 22, 1929, in Lorain, Ohio, Carm was the cherished daughter of Columbus "Cal" and Josephine (nee Rosso) Dimacchia. A proud member of the Lorain High School Class of 1947 (B Class), she began her professional career as a legal secretary before marrying the love of her life, Albert Januzzi, in 1951.
Together, Carm and Albert built not only a loving family but also a successful business. For more than fifty years, she worked faithfully alongside her husband, son Roland and his wife, Connie, at Januzzi Shoes, where she did whatever was needed—from stocking shelves and creating beautiful window displays to handling the accounting. Her dedication, strong work ethic, and quiet attention to detail helped make the family business a beloved part of the community. Januzzi Shoes, is celebrating 100 years of business this year in what also would have been, Alberts 100th. birthday. She later worked as a secretary in the law office of her son, Thomas, where she continued to share her organizational skills and unwavering support for her family.
A woman of deep faith, Carm was a devoted member of St. Peter Parish in Lorain. She generously gave of her time and talents as a Eucharistic Minister, including taking the Eucharist to the homebound. Lector, member of the Bereavement Ministry, choir member, and volunteer at the parish's beloved Spaghetti Dinners, where she enjoyed cooking and serving alongside fellow parishioners. Her faith was the foundation of her life and was reflected in the kindness, compassion, and service she extended to others.
Carm's commitment to serving her community reached far beyond her parish. She was a member and past president of the Lakeland Women's Club and also belonged to the Colony Club, Second Century Council board member and the Serra Club, the IAV, Italian American Veterans Club. She served as a past board member of the St. Joseph Hospital Foundation and the Lorain County Epilepsy Foundation and generously volunteered her time with the Lorain Public Library and the Lorain Historical Society, where she researched and presented notable women of Lorain. As her children were growing up, she was a dedicated room mother and an active member of the Mother's Club at Lorain Catholic High School, always eager to support her children's education and activities.
Her greatest joy, however, was her family. She never missed an opportunity to cheer on her children and later her grandchildren, faithfully attending their athletic competitions, school programs, concerts, and other special events. She treasured every moment spent with them, celebrating their accomplishments both big and small. Family gatherings were made even more special by her delicious homemade Italian meals and baked treats, lovingly prepared from recipes passed down through generations. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where everyone was welcomed with warmth, laughter, and an abundance of love.
Carm will be remembered for her unwavering faith, gentle spirit, generous heart, and the example she set through a life devoted to God, family, and service to others. Her legacy of love, devotion, and kindness will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her loving children, Roland (Connie) Januzzi, Thomas (Marjorie) Januzzi, Paula (Clark) Godfrey, and Alan (Jean) Januzzi; 13 grandchildren, Angela, Jenna, Sarah, Katie, Rebecca, Lauren, Amanda, Joseph, Gina, Dominic, Anthony, Austin, and Callie; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, John J. Dimmacchia; and sisters, Anita M. Helbig, and Peggy Rutkowski and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert V Januzzi, in 2003; parents, Cal and Josephine Dimacchia; sisters, Carol A. Courtney, and Joan T. Johnson; and brother, Joseph Dimacchia and Marshall Dimacchia.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. The family will again receive friends on Saturday, July 18th. from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. in the funeral center, Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
