Charles William Gillen's Obituary
Charles William Gillen, age 80, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, passed away on November 26, 2025, after a lengthy illness. He was born on October 20, 1945, to the late Charles William and Ethel (nee Newell) Gillen. Charles was a 1965 graduate of Brookside High School and later retired from U.S. Steel after 25 years of dedicated service.
A man who took pride in working with his hands, Charles enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and the simple pleasures of a quiet day spent outdoors. Above all, he cherished his family and the time he spent with them.
He was the loving father of Wendy Gillen; Charles “Chip” Gillen (Sandy); Tammy Hammond (Bruce); Rodney Gillen (Gabby); and Mary Daberkow (Steve). He was a proud grandfather to Jay (Karin), Justin, Jordyn, David (Holly), Scott, Chelsea (Dan), Hunter, Macie, Savannah, Ashleen, Chyerlin, Michelle, and Ricky; he leaves behind many great-grandchildren who brought him joy; and his companion Barbara Meier.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Chyerlin Ann Gillen, and his sisters Barbara Troupe, Winifred Gundersen, and Betty Eberly.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 5–7 PM, with services to follow at 7 PM, at Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral and Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, OH 44001. Graveside services will take place on Friday, December 5, 2025, at 1 PM at Ridge Hill Park Cemetery, Amherst, Ohio.
