Charles Ray Kempton's Obituary
Charles Ray Kempton, 73, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on July 12th, 2022.
Born in Lorain (OH) to Melvin and Julia (Koscan) Kempton, Charlie graduated from Admiral King High School in 1967 and worked at Ford Motor Company until being drafted in “The Big Draft” of 1968 for Vietnam. After returning from war, he landed a job at US Steel where he worked as an Inspector (“The Travelling Salesman”) for 30 years until his retirement.
Charlie loved the Cleveland Browns, fishing and boating (especially on Lake Erie), Budweiser, vacationing, his family and friends, and having a good time. He had an unmistakable voice, a great sense of humor, an unforgettable laugh, and a big heart under it all.
He is survived by his daughter, Julia Niley (Todd); granddaughter, Ansley Niley; Companion, Patrica Heinzerling; the mother of his child, Nancy Stinson; nephew, Shawn Kempton; and stepdaughters, Amy Hunt (Jeff) and Kay Kuhl (Brett Jones).
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Julia (Koscan) Kempton & Melvin Kempton; sister, Camilla Kempton; niece, Rachell Benczi; and nephew, Keith Benczi.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 24th, 2022, from 2 – 4 pm, at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. His funeral service will be on Monday, the 25th, at 10:00 am, also in the funeral center. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
