Charles J. Sherry's Obituary
Charles J. Sherry, age 71, of Amherst passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on September 2, 1950 in Spangler, Pennsylvania to Gervase and LaRue (nee Randall) Sherry. He graduated from Sacred Heart Seminary High School in Donaldson, Indiana. Charles served his country in the United States Navy at the rank of EM3. He entered on July 1, 1971 and was Honorably discharged on February 18, 1973.
Charles worked as an Automation Engineer for Ford Motor Company for 37 years, retiring in 2006.
He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain and was a volunteer for the Special Olympics and coached a special needs bowling league.
Charles was a deeply religious man with a strong faith and love for God. Known as Mr. Fix-It, he shared his talents freely and lovingly, he enjoyed traveling with his family in the RV, working in his yard, and most especially loved spending time with his family. His family was his world.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Pauline (nee Gargasz); children, Rosemary (Gary) Tompkins, and Michael (Jing) Sherry; step-children, Robert Zsigray, Donald (Sarah) Zsigray, Jamie Turner, Timothy Zsigray, and David Zsigray; grandchildren, Alexis, Devontae, Christopher, Keegan, Killian, Kyle, Noel, Timothy, Ethan, and Piper; great-grandchildren, Avion, Alivia, Luka, and Charlie; mother, LaRue Sherry; and sisters, Christine Sherry, Denise Collins, and Jeanne Norton
Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Bernice Sherry; father, Gervase Sherry; and brother, David Sherry.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 20, 2022 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 11110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
Contributions may be made in memory of Charles to the Friends of Murray Ridge (Special Olympics).
