Charlotte J. Herstek's Obituary
Charlotte J. Herstek, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake, Ohio, at the age of 77. Born on January 9, 1946, in Lorain, Ohio, Charlotte was the cherished daughter of Angelo and Gertrude (nee Jenkins) DiNunzio.
Charlotte's passion for education was evident from an early age. She graduated from Lorain High School in 1964 and went on to achieve her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Kent State University on August 28, 1971. Her dedication to teaching spanned over 30 years within the Lorain Public School System, where she imparted knowledge and inspired countless young minds. Her commitment to education was recognized when she was selected as an Outstanding Elementary School Teacher of America in 1972.
Beyond her career, Charlotte embraced a life of exploration and service. She traveled extensively across Five Continents with her family, fostering a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and experiences. Charlotte's altruistic spirit shone through her volunteer work, notably at the Cleveland Clinic alongside her mother for many years. She also devoted her time to volunteering at the Lakeview Rose Garden and was an active and dedicated member of the Lorain Lighthouse Methodist Church.
Charlotte's legacy of love and devotion continues through her family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Glen Herstek, her loving son Michael (Sarah) Herstek, grandchildren, and numerous relatives and friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and warmth.
She was preceded in death by her parents ,Angelo and Gertrude DiNunzio; and 2 sisters Carol and Antoinette.
In honoring Charlotte's life, the family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, located at 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Following the visitation, funeral services will commence at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral center, officiated by Rev. Adam Davis.
