Chris William Varndell's Obituary
Chris William Varndell, age 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake, Ohio. Born on February 21, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan, Chris was the beloved son of William and Mary Lou (nee Colbert) Varndell.
Chris grew up in Elyria, Ohio, and graduated from Elyria High School in 1970. Following his graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Army on March 2, 1972, serving his country with honor until his honorable discharge on November 9, 1977.
A master craftsman, Chris found his calling as a self-employed contractor. He was deeply devoted to his craft, and his skills were well-respected in the community. Beyond his professional life, Chris was a member of the Elks Lodge, where he formed many lasting friendships.
Chris was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing softball in his leisure time. He was inducted in into the Elyria Football Hall of Fame. He also had a passion for travel, especially cruises and trips to the casinos. His dog, Moose, was a constant and beloved companion.
Family was the cornerstone of Chris's life. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He often supervised their activities at home and enjoyed preparing meals for them after a day's hard work together.
Chris is survived by his loving wife of 11 years, Mellodie (nee Blair); his children, Matthew (fiancé Kayla Carosella) Varndell, Ryan (Betsy) Varndell, Chad (Sara) Blaz, Corey (Shannon) Blaz, and Cody Blaz; and his grandchildren, Mason, Garrett, Gavin, Liam, Cole, Zachary, Cooper, William, Rowan, Annabelle, and Zoe. He also leaves behind his sisters, Doreen Sinegar and Kim (Tom) Rollbuhler; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Lou Varndell.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
