Crystal J. Diaz's Obituary
Crystal J. Diaz (nee Stiwald), age 91, of Amherst, passed away at New Life Hospice on Saturday, May 22, 2021 after a brief illness.
She was born on July 8, 1929 in Amherst, where she was a life-long resident and a 1947 graduate of Amherst High School. Crystal was also a life-long member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst, where she participated in various women’s groups.
In earlier years, she worked at the family restaurant, Tudy’s Restaurant, in Lorain. She was most proud of being a homemaker, caring for her husband and children and tending to their home. During her life, she cherished her time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She and her husband always looked forward to their trips to Florida to visit with family. In her younger years, Crystal enjoyed golfing, and was one of the original “Willow Whacker’s” league.
Crystal is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, Arthur A. Diaz, her son Kris (Debi) Diaz, of Amherst, her daughter, Lisa (Joe) Hopper, of New Port Richey, FL, her 5 grandchildren; Jeremy (Shelly) Hopper, Jessa (Marcus) Schmitz, Jake (fiancé, Amanda) Diaz, Nick (fiancé, Hayley) Diaz, and Kristi (Logan) Cottingham and her 5 great grandchildren; Grayson, Kenna, Preston, Kinsey, and Jayce.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Mathilda (nee Gotro) Stiwald, her brother, Bill, and sisters, Oriette Jarrett and Grace Sevits.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 26th, from 4 – 7 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. The Funeral Service will be held, Thursday, May 27th at 1:00 pm, at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 582 Church Street, Amherst.
