Dan Kantelas' Obituary
Dan Kantelas, age 89, a lifelong resident of Lorain passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at O’Neill Healthcare Center in North Ridgeville.
He was born on April 11, 1927 in Lorain to Peter and Sultana (nee Andreopolous) Kantelas and graduated from Lorain High School.
Dan made his career as a metal finisher for Fruehauf Industries and later with the Ford Motor Company. He retired in 1992. He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. His passion was cars and working on them. He also loved to read and found much joy spending time with his family. He will be remembered fondly for his dry sense of humor.
He is survived by his children, Dan (Larry Kocis) Kantelas, of Elyria, Pamela (Henry) Bruscino, of North Carolina, and Melissa (Eric) Ford, of Texas; Daughter-in-Law, Linda Kantelas; grandchildren, Adrienne Gayoso, Adam Kantelas, Travis Ford, Alex Kantelas, and Paul (Melissa) Kantelas; and great-grandchildren, Lillian and Dahlia Kantelas.
Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Florence (nee Yonkings), in 1992; son, David Kantelas, in 2015; parents, Peter and Sultana; and his brother, Andrew Kantelas.
The Kantelas family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral &Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Trisayion Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. The family will also receive friends on Monday, January 9th. from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 2000 Tower Blvd., Lorain. Reverend Father Michael Gulgas, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
The family suggest contributions be made in memory of Dan to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
