Danny Michael DuVall's Obituary
Danny Michael DuVall, 76, of Lorain, Ohio, was born in Sandusky on September 1, 1949, to Woodrow and Alpha DuVall, and passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Danny met the love of his life, JoAnn Amos, in 1968 while both were attending The Ohio State University. They married on June 30, 1973, at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and resided in the Lorain/Elyria area for more than fifty years. Danny and JoAnn were blessed with two sons: Jason (Sara) DuVall of Westlake, Ohio, and Brandon (Abbey Bolton) DuVall of Stow, Ohio. One of Danny’s greatest joys was the arrival of his grandchildren, Evelyn and Aaron, both of Westlake.
Danny is also survived by his brother Charles (Thelma) DuVall of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters Dr. Joan DuVall-Flynn of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, and Sylvia DuVall of Lorain; sister-in-law Ivy Amos of Mansfield, Ohio; brothers-in-law Ed Amos of Columbus, Ohio, and Darwin (Wanda) Amos of Long Beach, California. His cherished nieces and nephews include Synthia Hawthorn (Cleveland, OH), Julius (Lisa) Flynn III (Wilmington, DE), Heather Flynn (Washington, D.C.), Jonathan (Jennifer) Flynn (Wilmington, DE), Brooke (Wade) Rivera (Las Vegas, NV), Keith DuVall (Sandusky, OH), Alex Amos (New Albany, OH), Jasmine (Alfred) Metcalf (Long Beach, CA), and Jonathan Amos (Long Beach, CA).
Danny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, JoAnn Amos DuVall; sister Sandra DuVall, brother-in-law Dr. Julius Flynn II; and nephews Kerry Hathorne, Thomas DuVall, and Adam DuVall.
Danny spent many years working on the assembly line at Ford Motor Company in Lorain. Later, he worked in the maintenance department of the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority, retiring in 2021. Danny was a lifelong Cleveland sports fan, faithfully spending Sunday afternoons in the fall cheering for the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, gardening and yardwork, and listening to music. Above all, he loved attending Evie’s band concerts and AJ’s baseball and basketball games.
The DuVall family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of the Western Reserve for their exceptional care and support shown to Danny and his family. Special thanks are also given to Dad’s neighbors, close friends, his sisters, and his nurse, Lakisha, for the extraordinary help, generosity, and kindness they provided.
A service to celebrate Danny’s life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral Home (Amherst, Ohio). Calling hours are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed immediately by a service officiated by Rev. Dr. Carl P. Small.
