Darlene L. Filczer's Obituary
Darlene L. Filczer (nee Vick), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Mill Manor Nursing Home in Vermilion. Born on July 13, 1932, in Lorain, Darlene lived most her life in her cherished hometown, graduating from Lorain High School with the class of 1950B. During her high school years, she was an active member of numerous clubs, reflecting her vibrant spirit and dedication.
After high school, Darlene embarked on a fulfilling career as an X-ray technician, first at St. Joseph's Hospital and later with the radiologists Dr.'s Russell & Berkebile, where she served with distinction until her retirement in 1988. Her professional life was marked by her commitment to patient care and her expertise in radiology. After retirement, Darlene and her husband moved to Columbus, OH in 1989, spending several years there before moving to Peachtree City, GA in 1994. They finally returned home, to Lorain, in 2006.
A devout member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain, Darlene found great joy in her faith and her church community. She treasured her church outings, coffee gatherings, ice cream treats, and moments spent admiring the beauty of Lake Erie. Her hobbies included crocheting, tending to her rose garden, and baking, all of which she approached with the same warmth and love she extended to everyone she met.
Darlene's family was the light of her life, especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. She was known for her huge heart, warm smile, and the genuine affection she showed to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of kindness and love will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched.
Darlene's passing leaves a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and community, but her memory will live on through the many lives she enriched with her presence. May she rest in eternal peace.
She is survived by her daughters, Georgia Filczer, of Lorain, Jacquelyn (Ted) Filczer Srokowski, of Amherst and Christine Filczer, of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Wendy (Dale) Rauch-Wnek, of Amherst, Dawn (Mike) Turley, Worthington, OH, Ashley (David) Srokowski Shafer, of Cleveland, Ted Srokowski, of Amherst and Tyler Srokowski, of Amherst; and great grandchildren, Kennedy Rauch, Korrina Rauch, Zofia Shafer, Lucas Shafer, Jude Shafer, Cecelia Wnek, Camilla Wnek and Stella Turley. She was also a beloved aunt to several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Alfred F. Filczer; parents, Roy & Beatrice E. (nee Hill) Vick; and her sister, Shirley McCarty.
The family will receive friends for Darlene’s Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 5th, 2024 at 10:00 am, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 309 West 7th Street, Lorain, OH. Fr. Daniel O. Divis, Pastor, will officiate. Her inurnment will be private at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Lorain.
