David Y Borthwick's Obituary
David Y. Borthwick, age 48, of Lorain, Ohio passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.
He was born on November 9, 1965 in Lorain, Ohio to David and Marilyn (nee Dovala) Borthwick and was a 1984 graduate of Southview High School. Upon his graduation from high school he enlisted with the United States Marine Corps and served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1988.
David made his career as Firefighter for 25 years with the Elyria Fire Department. He was also an instructor at Cleveland State University, teaching hazardous materials safety and confined space classes.
He enjoyed coaching his daughter’s soccer teams, reading, vacationing and camping. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
David is survived by his wife of 15 years, Angi (nee Wilson); daughters, Hannah and Grace; his mother, Marilyn Borthwick; a sister, Cindy Balser; and his father-in-law, Tom Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his father, David James Borthwick; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Marilyn and Mark Ross.
The Borthwick family will receive friends on Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A memorial service will be held at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday evening. Rev. Laurie Miller, Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church, Lorain will officiate. The Elyria Fire Department will conduct the “Last Alarm” following the service. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of David to the family. They will be making donations to several charities in his name.
