David C. Clark's Obituary
David C. Clark, born March 14, 1939 and a lifelong resident of Lorain, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2018. He was a graduate of Lorain High School class of 1957 B. He was the son of the late Eva-Jean (Krantz) Peebles and John Harold Clark. Dave was under New Life Hospice care surrounded by his loving family.
Dave worked at both Lorain Hardware and Clark Hardware during high school. He entered the Marine Corps in 1957 with 6 other Graduates; they were called the Charles Berry Buddy Platoon. After boot camp, he was selected to the base rifle team. His next assignment was to the Navy Supply School at Jacksonville Florida. While serving with H & H S-27 M.W.S. G-27 2nd. Marine Air Cherry Point North Carolina, he reached the grade of Lance Corporal meritoriously promoted to E-3. He was discharged in 1959 and returned to Lorain.
Professionally, Dave worked at Lorain Banking and Century Tel, retiring after 39 years from the telephone company.
Community service included: member of American Legion Post #30, member of Lorain Senior Fellowship, Kiwanis Club, charter member of Lorain Sailing Club, President of Meister Road School P.T.A., active member of the Admiral King Band Boosters, life member of Lofton Henderson Detachment Marine Corps League serving as paymaster, and an active member of CWA Local 4370. He also received meritorious service medals and ribbons. He is a life member of Amvets Post #47 where he served as treasurer for many years. He was awarded Veteran of the Year by the Lorain Vets Council in 2003.
Dave was a former member of the Hungarian Reformed Church U.C.S., where he served as General Chairman, English Chairman, President of both Men’s Brotherhood and senior choir member for 12 years. He coached the boy’s basketball team and led them to the Championship in the Y.M.C.A. league 10 staight years. He is a current member of the Community Congregational U.C.C. Church in Amherst.
As Dave was so involved in his community and church, his most precious time was spending it with his family. He was a great presence at all his children and grandchildren’s events.
Dave will be greatly missed by his wife of 26 years, Karen (Velasquez) Clark; daughters, Cindy (Jim) Bryda, Amy-Jo (Tony) West; step-daughters, Tanya (Rob)Garcia, and Michele (Giles) Brown; grandchildren, Adam Bryda, Michael (Carine) Bryda, Steven West, Gabriel and Vanessa Garcia, Marissa (Isaiah) Brown, Monique, Mariah, and Makayla Brown; great-grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Bryda, and Zayne and Zaiya Brown.
The family would like to thank Amherst Fresenius Dialysis Center, Elyria Wound Care, Hyperbaric Chamber Medical Center, and Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be most grateful that donations be made to either; AMVETS Post #47, 3009 Broadway Ave., Lorain, OH 44055, or to the capital campaign of the Community Congregational U.C.C., 379 S. Main Street, Amherst, Ohio 44001.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, Ohio. The family will also receive friends on Friday, October 19th, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Pastor Mark Pemberton will officiate. Chaplain Mark T. Hurlbut, with the Lofton Henderson Marine Corp League Detachment, will be providing military honors. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
