David T. Hanshumaker's Obituary
David T. Hanshumaker, 68, of Elyria passed away peacefully at Avon Oaks Caring Community on Friday, January 20, 2023 after a brief bout with cancer. He was born on September 1, 1954 in Lorain, OH to Harold and Martha Hanshumaker (nee Wright).
David was a 1972 honor graduate of Southview High School in Lorain, OH. After also graduating with honors from Heidelberg College in the class of 1976, he began his career as an analytical or research and development chemist with B. F. Goodrich in Avon Lake. He continued to work in that capacity throughout all the company and site changes, retiring in 2014.
In his younger years, David enjoyed playing chess and tennis. He transitioned to golf which became his all-time favorite pastime especially in retirement. He was also skilled as a finish carpenter and dabbled in many types of home and car repair. Aside from volunteering most Saturdays as one of the coaches for the Ridge Runner Bowling League whose emphasis is accommodating those with special needs, David was integral in helping to care for his younger brother. This included logging many hours at Cedar Point.
David will be deeply missed by his sister, Pamela Hanshumaker, and brother, John Hanshumaker, both residents of Amherst, OH. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, golfing buddies, and bowling associates. David was preceded in death by his father, Harold Hanshumaker in 1969, and his mother, Martha Hanshumaker in 1989.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 26th, 2023 from 5-7 pm, at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1100 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, OH. Friends will also be received on Friday from 10:30 am until his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Rev. Timothy J. O’Connor, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dovinreberjones.com.
