David Allen Jenkins' Obituary
David Allen Jenkins, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a former member of Camden Township for 32 years and the LaGrange community for the past 27 years passed away on April 30, 2023, at the age of 90. He was surrounded by his family at his home in LaGrange, Ohio.
David was born on September 30, 1932, in Lorain, Ohio to James B. and Margaret (nee Gressler) Jenkins. He attended St. Joseph School in Amherst for grade school and graduated from Amherst High School in 1950. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served at the rank of Petty Officer 2nd class during the Korean War as a Sonarman.
After his military service, David made his career as an electrician with LTV Steel. In addition to being an electrician, he was a mink rancher, raising mink for 32 years and later owned horses, specifically Pacers, that raced at Northfield Park and other tracks. He was also an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin, where he served as one of the first Eucharistic ministers for several years.
David enjoyed a variety of sports including basketball, baseball, bowling, and golf, and he even achieved a hole in one. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially the trips he took to Michigan and West Virginia with his sons.
David is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joann (nee Camp) Jenkins; his children, Timothy (Kellie) Jenkins, of Amherst, Joseph Jenkins, of Amherst, David (Karin) Jenkins, of Florida, Diane (Joel) Bradburne, of Cincinnati, Mary (Dennis) Taljan, of Westlake, and Colleen (Scott) Muniga, of Oberlin; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, James Jenkins, and Terry (Shirley) Jenkins.
He was preceded in death by son, Thomas; parents, James B. and Margaret Jenkins; and his sister-in-law, June Jenkins.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 5, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be said on Saturday, May 6th at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 410 W. Lorain St., Oberlin. Rev. Father David Trask, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Camden Twp. Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Mercy New Life Hospice for their excellent care and consideration that was shown to David and their family in their time of need.
