David S. Monos' Obituary
David S Monos passed into eternal rest on May 29, 2016 after a 4 ½ year battle with Prostate Cancer surrounded by his loving family. He was born a leap year baby February 29, 1932 in Lorain Ohio. He was raised a South Lorain child and attended Lorain High School graduating in 1950. Like so many young men of his generation, he immediately went to work at National Tube aka US Steel. After only a few months, he heeded the call of his country and enlisted in the US Air Force to do battle in the Korean Conflict. He spent 4 years as a radar technician while stationed on the Pacific Island of Okinawa. Upon returning home, he took advantage of the GI bill and attended OSU & Baldwin Wallace College obtaining his Bachelor Degree in Physics in 1958. He then returned to US Steel on the hot end of the #4 seamless pipe mill as a General Foreman where he retired in 1986. He worked post retirement for 5 years at The Swiss Engineering Firm, Lonza.
David enjoyed playing the trumpet for over 30 years with the Rhythm Knights band. He became a US Coast Guard licensed charter captain running fishing charters on Lake Erie, and enjoyed spending endless summer days fishing with his children and grandchildren. He was a very devoted member of the Hungarian Reformed Church in South Lorain devoting many years serving on the church consistory and as part of the kitchen crew that prepared the famous chicken paprikas dinners for the Lorain International Festival. He was also an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan.
He was proceeded in death by his parents David & Mary (Mucha) Monos. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Roberta (Mondock) Monos and would have celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage on June 23 of this year. His children Mark (Jill Hall) of Amherst, Keith (Sharon) of Amherst, Kim (Greg) Hanuscin of Avon, David (Melinda) of Westerville, and sister Diane Harmych Ott (Steven) of Vermilion. He had 6 grandchildren Jordan, Mackenzie, & Morgan Hanuscin, Jason Monos, Robert (Sam) & Randi Hall. Also nieces and nephews Beth & Chris Kovach and their children Tyler and Emma & Gene Harmych and his daughter Kaylee.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. They will also be receiving friends on Thursday, June 2nd. From 10:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 1691 E. 31st. Street, Lorain. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Peter Toth, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
