David Ryan's Obituary
David W. Ryan, 78, of Vermilion, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Maison Aine Nursing Home in Stow, Ohio following complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Born on December 2, 1934 in Bedford, Ohio to the late Richard and Mary (nee Hyde) Ryan, he resided on the westside of the Cleveland area for most of his life. David was a graduate of St. Edward High School and had attended Kent State University. He had served four years in the Navy Reserves.
An insurance broker for many years, he owned the David W. Ryan and Associates Agency in Rocky River. He retired in 2009.
Upon his retirement, David became enchanted with the lake and the Vermilion area. He made that city his home for the last five years.
While living in the Cleveland area, he was an active member of St. Raphael Parish in Bay Village, having served as an usher. Currently, he was a member of St. Joseph Church, Amherst.
David stayed active by golfing and traveling. He was also an avid gardener, taking conscientious care of his yard. He also assisted his wife with volunteering for the Amherst Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife, Judith (nee Daniels); his daughter, Mary Kay (Ken) Haneline, of Hudson; his son, David, Jr. (Tony Knighton), of Pittsburgh, PA; his grandchildren; Carole Ryan and her mother, Wendy Donkin, Kyle Haneline, Bryce Haneline, Britton Haneline and Tessa Haneline; his brother, Richard Ryan, of Boston, MA and his sisters, Florence Brown, of Stow and Betty Larson, of Miami, FL.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Ryan; his sister, Mary Patricia Ryan; his grandson, Ryan Haneline, and his first wife, Carole.
The Ryan family will receive friends at a memorial gathering on Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst.
