David M. Sturtevant's Obituary
David M. Sturtevant, age 76, of Amherst, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 4th, 2023.
He was born on May 18, 1946 in Elyria. He grew up and lived most of his life in Sheffield Lake, graduating from Brookside High School in 1964. After high school graduation, he went on to serve his beloved country by enlisting into the United States Air Force. He served for 4 years, with most of his time being stationed in Guam, before being honorably discharged.
David has always been an entrepreneur at heart. His most recent and fulfilling endeavor was owning his own trucking company, D & V Truck, Inc. With his wife forever by his side, they owned and operated their company for 24 years, him still driving up until a year ago. No matter what business he was working in, his most proud job was being a Sunday School teacher for his church, Tower Baptist. He enjoyed teaching about faith, the Lord and the importance of religion, always looking forward to preparing his lessons for the upcoming week. What was really the most important and closest to his heart though was his family and spending every moment he could with them. David also enjoyed the outdoors, especially when he could ride his motorcycle, be on his boat fishing, going camping and practice shooting.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Virginia S. (nee Sowers); sons, Scott Sturtevant and Steve (Michelle) Sturtevant; stepdaughter, Susan (Joe) Newman; all of his many grandchildren & great grandchildren; and his siblings, Sandy (Tom) Lotz, June (David) Pilger and Ian (Jeannie) Sturtevant.
He was preceded in death by a son, Shane Sturtevant; parents, Maurice & Donna (nee Weiber) Sturtevant; sister, Joan; and a stepbrother, Warren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 8th, 2023 from 3 – 7 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst.
