Delphia Cruz's Obituary
Delphia Elizabeth Cruz, 77 years old, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 11:28 a.m. surrounded by her loving family. She was a 30 year resident of Sullivan, Ohio and lived for the past 13 years in Lorain, Ohio where she was faithfully and lovingly cared for by her devoted daughter, Nattividad Cruz.
Her hobbies were many & included: speaking Spanish, cooking Puerto Rican foods, gardening, blackberry picking, canning, jellies, jams, and quilting. She raised and butchered chickens, goats, & pigs. She also enjoyed garage sales and shopping at Goodwill.
Delphia was born a coal miner's daughter in Bypro, Kentucky, on April 11, 1936 and was raised in Ford's Branch, Kentucky by hard-working, God-fearing parents, Ulan (d. 1962) and Pearl Casebolt (d. 1994) who had 11 children. She is preceded in death by the following siblings: Inez Workman (2001), Evelyn Richardson (2011), Louis Casebolt (1990), Crawford Casebolt (1996), Wanda Fayetta Thacker (2001). She is survived by brother Samuel Casebolt (Dorothy) (Virgie, KY), and sisters Lillian Ann Hampton (Everette) (Virgie, KY), Esther Lee Newsom (Tivis) (Virgie, KY), Lennie Harriet Mattingly (Sam) (Powder Springs, GA), Frances Hampton (Darlin) (Virgie, KY), Spicy Bartley (Willie) (Pikeville, KY), and baby sister, Rosa Lena Hall (David) (Crooksville, OH).
She leaves behind the following loving family members: Narciso E. Cruz, husband of 47 years, Damarita Gonzalez (Francisco) of Lorain, OH, Manuel E. Cruz (Nancy) of Quaker City, OH, Nattividad E. Cruz of Lorain, OH and Soledad Larry (Alfred) of South Euclid, OH. She was "Woolly" to her 7 grandchildren-- Francisco "Turk" Gonzalez, III (d. 2009), Danielle Cruz, Rachel (Jason) Triglio, Molly (Jason) Wright and Megan Cruz, Idris Larry and Adriana Larry. She is also survived by a total of four great-grandchildren, three from her beloved Turk—Olivia "Babe", Elysia and Sophia and McKena Trigilio from Rachel Trigilio (Pumpkin). She was a well-loved aunt and leaves behind many fond memories in the hearts of her nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Monday, June 24th 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Funeral Services will be at noon on Tuesday, June 25th in the funeral center. Deacon Rocky Ortiz will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
