Dominic Garbo's Obituary
Dominic Garbo, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Avon Oaks Nursing Home. Born in Lorain, Ohio on May 11, 1931, Dominic was the son of Salvatore and Josephine (née Bonavita) Garbo. He was a proud graduate of Lorain High School, Class of 1950.
Dominic devoted 42 years of his life to Lake Terminal Railroad, where he worked as a conductor and brakeman, retiring in 1994. Alongside his railroad career, he was the owner and operator of Garbo Trucking for 20 years, showcasing his tireless work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.
A man of many talents and interests, Dominic enjoyed boating, woodworking, photography, gardening, and computers. His curiosity and creativity were evident in everything he did, and he will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, and deep love for his family.
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Kathleen Garbo, Susan Garbo, and Gayle Garbo, all of Amherst, and Margaret Kocorek of Berthoud, Colorado; and his cherished six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Patricia (nee Johnson); parents, Salvatore and Josephine Garbo; his brothers, Phillip, Anthony, and Joseph Garbo; and his sisters, Rosemary Hardesty and Frances Tyler.
Private family funeral services were held under the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center.
