Donald J. Miller's Obituary
Donald J. Miller, born on October 2, 1943 in Saint Paul, Minnesota to Raymond and Lillian (nee Hefta) Miller passed away following a long illness on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at UH Elyria Medical Center at the age of 78.
He enlisted with the United States Marines on October 27, 1964 serving his country during the Vietnam War at the rank of Sergeant. While enlisted he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. He was honorably discharged on October 25, 1968.
Donald made his career as a Computer Programmer for Macy’s Department Stores. He was a member of Grow Point Church in Amherst, a member of Gideons International distributing numerous Bibles, and the Salvation Army where he coordinated the red kettle schedule.
He loved reading his Bible, science fiction television shows and movies, and collecting guns and knives. Donald was a gentle and quiet man with a kind heart. He loved being called “papa” by his grandchildren. He was always referred to as “Don” until his first grandchild was born, he then became “Papa” to everyone that knew him.
Donald is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marcia (nee Catt); daughter, Amanda (David) King; son, Adam (Angela) Miller; and grandchildren, Callie Miller, Mylie Miller, Miles Rivera, David King Jr., Lucas King, Adeline Miller, and Blake Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Lillian Miller.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. Pastor Leslie Klingenmier of Grow Point Church will officiate. Interment will be held on Thursday, August 25th at 2:15 p.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273.
