Donald J Woltman's Obituary
Donald Woltman, age 97, of Lorain, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018 at Ames Family Hospice Center, a facility of the Hospice of the Western Reserve.
Donald was born on April 20, 1920 to Walter and Mary (nee Symkoviak) Woltman in Lorain. He graduated from Lorain High School in the 1938 B class, and went on to serve our country in the United States Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart in combat before being honorably discharged in 1945.
He then went on to work for the Internal Revenue Service in Lorain, followed by further locating to Ashtabula, Ohio, Fairbanks, Alaska, and Las Vegas, Nevada before retiring in 1981.
Upon retirement, Donald worked as a Keno pit boss at the Hacienda Hotel in Las Vegas. He returned to the Lorain area in 1990.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Polish Fisherman’s Club of Lorain. Don enjoyed nature, hunting, fishing, and bird watching. He was a true outdoorsman.
Donald is survived by his sons; James (Mary Alyce) Woltman of Lorain, and Robert Woltman of Laguna Beach, CA; daughter, Donna Jean (Dennis) Abend, of Newark, OH; Grandchildren, Marc Stiffler, Bradley Stiffler, Luke Stiffler, Olivia Steele, and Gregory Woltman; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Rita, of 57 years, in 2013; parents, Walter and Mary; daughter, Carol Jane Woltman; brothers, Albin and Chester Woltman; and sisters, Frances Justin and Margaret Weber.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 5, 2018 at St Joseph Catholic Church, 200 Saint Joseph Drive, Amherst, from 9:30 am – 11:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial. Father Gerald Keller will officiate. Interment will take place on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 11:00 am, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman Ohio.
