Donald G. Young's Obituary
Donald G. Young, age 79, of Lorain, passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a one year battle with leukemia.
He was born on June 22, 1935 in Roaring Springs, PA to the late Walter and Veora Young and then grew up in Yellow Creek, PA.
Donald served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Then in 1959 he moved to Lorain and has resided here since.
For 34 years he worked at the Lorain Ford Assembly Plant as a quality control supervisor. He retired in 1993.
Donald was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church and the parish Holy Name Society. He also was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 451 in Lorain.
He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan and also enjoyed bowling and spending time outdoors. Donald especially treasured the time he spent with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Agnes (nee Shaffron); his sons, Donald Jr. (Karen), of Lorain, and Mark A. (Pamela), of Lake City, FL; his daughter, Theresa (Louis) Velasquez, of Lorain; 4 grandchildren, Jackalyn (Benjamin) Prosak, Natalie, Velasquez, Anthony Velasquez, and Ethan Herndon; and 1 great-grandson, Nicholas Prosak; his brother, James, of IN and his sister, Winifred Clark, of CA.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Elmer “Mick”, Floyd “Ken” and Barney and his sisters, Mary Ella and Orpha.
The family invites friends to join them at a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Church, 41295 N Ridge Rd, Elyria. Rev. Fr. Donald Dunson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
The Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst, is handling the arrangements.
