Edward J. Deidrick Jr.'s Obituary
Edward J. Deidrick Jr., a devoted family man and respected member of the community, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the age of 90, at Ames Family Hospice in Westlake, Ohio. Born on October 13, 1933, in Lorain, Ohio, Edward was the son of Edward J. and Elizabeth (nee Hamann) Deidrick Sr.
Edward graduated from Marion L. Steele High School in 1951 and shortly after enlisted with the United States Marines on October 17, 1951. He served honorably as a Corporal during the Korean War and was discharged on October 16, 1954. His dedicated service earned him several commendations, including the Korean Service Medal, National Defense Medal, U.N. Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Known for his strong work ethic and business acumen, Edward was the proud owner and operator of Deidrick's Sohio Gas Station from 1959 to 1979. An accomplished mechanic, his expertise was highly sought after. In addition to his work at the gas station, Edward owned the Dairy Swirl in South Amherst and Ridgehill Collectibles in Amherst. He also served his community through his roles as a custodian at Murray Ridge Center and as a courier for LorMet Community Federal Credit Union in Amherst.
Edward was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst and the Amherst Sportsman's Club. His commitment to community was further exemplified through his time coaching Little League Baseball. Edward cherished outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, camping, and vacationing, but his greatest joy came from the time spent with his beloved family.
Edward is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Geraldine (nee Hall); his children, Denise Harmych, Diane Lewis, Steve (Diane) Staszak, and Kathleen (Luciano) Vasquez; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kim Staszak; great-granddaughter, Maiya Sutton; his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 27, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 115 Central Drive, Amherst. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12:00 noon at the church, with Pastor Paul Werner officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center.
