Eino Kooba's Obituary
Dr. Eino Kooba, age 87, of Lorain passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 10, 2012 at Mercy Regional Medical Center.
Eino was born on August 23, 1925 in Tallinn, Estonia to the late Jaan and Mathilde Kooba. At the age of 19 he was forced to leave his country and move to Germany when the communist took over Estonia. In 1949 he came to the United States from Germany to work and save money to pursue his desire to study medicine. He began a construction business in Long Island. He returned to Europe, where he studied and graduated from the University Of Zurich Medical School in 1957. Upon graduation he returned to the United States to serve his residency in Bridgeport, CT and New York City, where he met his wife, Kitty, while she was working at Cornell University. After his residency was complete he moved to Pennsylvania and worked as a Hospital House Physician. In 1961 he moved to West Liberty/Bellfontaine, Ohio and eventually settled in Lorain in 1965, opening his practice and serving his patients until retiring in 1992. Dr. Kooba served as Medical Director for many of the Industrial Companies in Lorain County.
He was a member of the Amherst Congregational Church, the American Medical Society and the Lorain County Medical Association. He was a Philatelist (serious stamp collector), a Medical Examiner for the FAA, a pilot and an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gita "Kitty" (nee Poldemann) Kooba; son, Dr. Erik (Kelly) Kooba, of Southern Illinois; grandchildren, Alexander and Teresa Kooba.
The Kooba family will receive family and friends on Friday, September 14, 2012 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 15th. at 10:00 a.m. at the Amherst Congregational UCC Church, 379 South Main Street, Amherst. Pastor Attila Szemesi will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
