Elba I. Appleby's Obituary
Elba Iris Torres Appleby, Age 76, Born October 10th, 1937 of Elyria, Ohio went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Thursday October 10, 2013.
Born in Coamo, Puerto Rico, she moved to Ohio as a child in 1948. She was raised in Elyria, graduated from Elyria High School in 1955 and went on to Gail Institute in Minneopolis, MN. She moved to Washington DC working for the Main Navy Dept - Marine Cornell. Elba married in Sept 1958 to Wayne E. Appleby.
She moved with her husband, who was in the Navy and was stationed in Newport, Rhode Island for several years, and settled raising her family in Elyria since 1963; raising her family of four children.
Elba worked as a medical transcriptionist, legal secretary and served in roles up until retirement with Northern Savings & Loan in both the Title Department and ended her work life as a Loan Officer.
Elba is survived by her husband Wayne, her sister Edna (Torres) DesChamps of Texas and four (4) Children: Kellie Appleby & Andrew (Bendik) of Elyria, Michael Appleby, daughter-in-law Julia of North Canton, Scott Appleby, daughter-in-law Lourdes of Miramar Florida, Amy (Patarini) of Elyria. Grandchildren: (Ten) Andrew Mychal Bendik (Avon), Jayson Brendan Bendik (Jessy) Elyria, Joshua (Bendik) Elyria Patarini: Gabriella, Bianca, Mark Anthony and Isabella Patarini of Elyria, Alexander Appleby of Miramar Florida; and Austin & Jacob Appleby, of North Canton.
Great Grandchildren: (Three) Brayden, Briella and Baylynn Bendik and extended family blessed nephews and nieces: Alderic (Herk) Judy DesChamps, OH; Joel (Rhonda) DesChamps TX, Coranna Newcomb-Budd (Deschamps) OH, Daniel (Kelli) DesChamps TX, Andrea (Billy) Estep TX, Carlos (Charlotte) Landreau (MN).
She was preceded in death by Felipe Torres Rivera (Father), Ana Torres Torres (Mother), her sister Edda Torres, and brother in law Alderic Deschamps.
She was a member of Church of the Open Door for over 60 plus years. Her hobbies were ceramics and crafting.
Calling hours are Monday, October 14th from 4 to 8 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd ., Amherst (440) 985-2100. Funeral services for Elba will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 15th , at the Funeral Center with Pastor Bob Wickens officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
