Eleanor Shulsky-DiLuciano's Obituary
Eleanor Shulsky-DiLuciano, a beloved member of the Lorain community, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and joy. Born in Lorain, Ohio on December 22, 1929, to Phillip and Laura (nee Caffori) DeSantis, Eleanor's life was one marked by service, love, and deep connections with those around her.
Eleanor spent her entire life in Lorain, where she attended Lorain High School before pursuing her passion for nursing at the Elyria College of Nursing. As a registered nurse, she served tirelessly for 25 years within the Lorain City Schools, touching countless lives with her caring demeanor and skillful expertise. Her dedication to pediatric care extended beyond the school system, as she also worked at St. Joseph Hospital, leaving an indelible mark on the pediatrics department.
A devout member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Eleanor's faith was a cornerstone of her life. Her involvement within the church community was extensive, serving as a past president of the Marion Guild and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Her commitment to service and faith was recognized when she was honored as Woman of the Year in 1996. Additionally, she dedicated her time to coordinating ecumenical services and played a vital role in various fundraising endeavors.
Beyond her church commitments, Eleanor was a passionate supporter of Lorain High School's sports booster club, further demonstrating her dedication to her community. However, Eleanor's life wasn't solely defined by her work and service; she found joy in the company of her friends, whom she lovingly referred to as the "Golden Girls." Together, they enjoyed watching movies. She also enjoyed shopping and traveling, especially when she took her trips to the casinos. Above all, she loved creating cherished memories with her beloved family when they all gathered. Those times will be forever treasured by those who loved her.
She is survived by her children, Laura Jordan, of Lorain, Jon (Cindy) Shulsky, of Westlake, Tom Shulsky, of Lorain and Joe (Debi) Shulsky, of Pagosa Springs, CO; grandchildren, Lindsey Jordan, Chad (Christine) Jordan, Matt Jordan, Arthur (Alisha) Shulsky, Nick (Tana) Shulsky, Vincent Shulsky and Stone Shulsky; her great grandchildren, Aiden, Leia, Bjorn, Sloane, Ava, Ingrid and Nick; and a sister-in-law, Janis (nee Mitenbuler) DeSantis. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Arthur Shulsky, her 2nd husband, Albert DiLuciano, her parents and her siblings, Peter DeSantis, Mario DeSantis, Mary Jo Mullins and Joe DeSantis.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 25th from 4 -7 pm at Dovin Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 am, also in the funeral center. Her Mass of Christian burial will follow prayers, at 10:00 am, at St. Peter’s Church, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio 44053. The Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate.
