Elizabeth Fordyce's Obituary
Elizabeth Ely Fordyce (nee Ely), age 103, of Greene County, PA entered into eternal life on Monday, September 27, 2010 at New Life Hospice Residential Center, in Lorain after an illness of 1 month.
Elizabeth was born on October 20, 1906 to the late Robert H. and Eva Grove Ely in Oak Forest, Center Twp., Pennsylvania. She was a 1926 graduate of Rogersville Center Twp. High School where she acted in plays and won top awards for her readings. After graduation from high school she attended Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania earning a Certificate of Teaching. She taught for many years in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania in a one room school house, teaching all 8 grades.
She attended Willow Grove Baptist Church. She was a member of Womens Temperance Union. Elizabeth enjoyed reading the Bible, gardening and canning. During the “Great Depression” she and her family fed and cared for all that came to their home.
Elizabeth is survived by her son, Raymond E. (Jean) Fordyce, of Lorain and daughter, Carolyn (Harold) West, of Lorain; grandchildren, Charles Kerr, Timothy Fordyce, Chris Fordyce, Greg Fordyce, Tanya Pritchett, Melissa Snow and Deborah Mick; several great and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas R. Fordyce, on Sept. 13, 1991; daughter, Audrienne (Charles) Kerr on Sept.14, 1991; granddaughter, Kimberly Kerr; brothers, Wilbur, Charles, Edward, Robert, Woodrow, J. Forrest Ely; sisters, Artie Cunningham, Ettice Johnson and Callie Rees.
The Fordyce family will receive family and friends on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. The family will also receive friends on Friday, October 1, 2010 from11:00 – 1:00 p.m. in the Rush Funeral Home, 3275 W. Roy Furman Highway, Rogersville, PA. where funeral services will be held at following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery.
