Elizabeth L. Pataky's Obituary
Elizabeth L. "Betty Lou" Pataky, 88, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Born on December 28, 1935, in Leechburg, Pennsylvania, Betty Lou was a proud graduate of Vandergrift High School. In the mid-1950s, she moved to Lorain, Ohio, where she built a life filled with love, music, family, and friendship.
Betty Lou's proudest role was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and she brought a warm spirit to everyone she met. A talented performer, she sang in the Al Battistelli Band for over 25 years, sharing her passion for music with audiences and family alike. In addition to her musical career, she worked briefly at an answering service, bringing her cheerful personality to each call she answered.
A faithful member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Betty Lou was deeply devoted to her faith and her community. She treasured her time with the Steel Magnolias, a beloved group of close friends who gathered to celebrate each other's birthdays, holidays, and the simple joys of life. Together, they created a sisterhood that brought joy, laughter, and comfort to one another.
Betty Lou loved a visit to any local casino with her family, especially her beloved brother Al and sisters, finding excitement in reverse raffles at the Slovenian Home in Cleveland, and enjoyed dancing—especially the Polka—and singing at every chance she got. Her love for music was instilled by her loving brother, where he never missed a chance to take her to one of his performances, or any trip, his sister was always a special guest. She was often seen out and about with her favorite sidekick and sister Connie, with whom she shared countless adventures. Betty Lou's joy for life, love of music, and dedication to her friends and family left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Betty Lou, truly never had a bad word to say about anyone. She will be dearly missed.
Her family and friends will forever hold in their hearts the warmth, laughter, and music she brought into their lives.
In Betty Lou’s delight, there was no such thing as an “in-law.” Once you married into the family, you were just that, family. She is survived by her children, Joseph (Paula) Pataky, of Lorain, David (Martha) Pataky, of Amherst and Lisa (David) Doud, of Vermilion; grandchildren, Alyssa Coggins, Joseph Pataky, DJ (Brittany) Doud, Lauren (Matt) Farrar, Cody (Kyle) Doud and David (Sami) Pataky; great grandchildren, Peyton, Ella, Nova, Aubree, Brantley, Bryson, Wyatt, and Elaina; brother, Al (LeEtta) Battistelli, of Lorain; and her sister, Constance Machulsky, of Apollo, PA.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph, in 2004; parents, Albert & Louise (nee Rosco) Battistelli; and her beloved sister, Patricia “Patty” Toth.
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 4, 2024 from 3 -7 pm at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Tuesday, also in the funeral center, at 10:30 am. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am at St. Peters Catholic Church, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Fr.
